Our History

A congregation born from unity โ€” serving Fort Worth since 1984.

Born from Five Congregations

West Freeway Church of Christ was formed through a remarkable act of unity among five Churches of Christ in the Fort Worth area. When the Texas Highway Department informed Sunset Church of Christ that a new freeway would be built through its worship auditorium, Sunset's elders met with leaders from White Settlement Church of Christ, Ridglea West Church of Christ, and two other area congregations to discuss a path forward.

Rather than each congregation finding its own solution, they made the bold decision to merge โ€” forming West Freeway Church of Christ. This new congregation began with an extraordinary foundation: more than 700 members, 24 elders, over 60 deacons, and six full-time ministers.

In April 1983, the congregation broke ground on hilltop property on Western Hills Boulevard in White Settlement, Texas. On Easter Sunday in April 1984, the first worship service was held with more than 800 people in attendance โ€” a powerful beginning to what would become a lasting Fort Worth church family.

The original facility at 8000 Western Hills Boulevard served the congregation faithfully for 34 years. In 2018, the elders made the decision to sell the property and relocate to the current location on Las Vegas Trail, using the former Las Vegas Trail Church of Christ building. Today, we continue our mission of worship, fellowship, service, and sharing the Gospel.

What We Believe

As a congregation in the Churches of Christ, we seek to follow the New Testament pattern for the church in all matters of faith and practice.

๐Ÿ“–

Scripture Alone

The Bible is the inspired word of God and our only guide in matters of faith and practice. We speak where the Bible speaks.

โœ๏ธ

Jesus as Lord

We confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior โ€” His death, burial, and resurrection are the foundation of our hope and our worship.

๐ŸŽต

Acappella Worship

Our worship is conducted acappella โ€” singing with our voices as an offering to God, following the New Testament example.
